Brisbane Airport Retailers to Accept Crypto Coins

Brisbane International Airport now allows passengers to pay for services of certain merchants by using Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Dash, Bitcoin Cash and Nem. This opportunity emerged thanks to the cooperation with TravelbyBit, growing a network of merchants around Australia that accept payment in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

"Brisbane Airport is proud to be the first airport in the world to achieve this in partnership with a small local start-up business such as TravelbyBit," said Brisbane Airport development manager Clint Harvey.

TravelbyBit has over 100 crypto-accepting merchants across Australia. Merchants cooperating with the company can choose to receive payment in Bitcoin, fiat currency, or a combination. The company hopes that merchants around Australia will begin to receive payment exclusively in Bitcoin, use it to pay for business suppliers and even pay their staff in Bitcoin.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, BNE has two major Terminals accommodating 32 airlines flying to 83 domestic and international destinations.  It is a suburb in its own right, the largest capital city airport in Australia by land size (2,700 hectares) and the third-largest airport in Australia by passenger numbers with nearly 22.9 million passengers travelling through the airport in FY17.
