Salesforce Planning Blockchain Integration This Year

Salesforce, a US-based cloud computing company best known for their Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, is planning to integrate blockchain before the end of 2018.

Speaking to Business Insider’s Julie Bort at the TrailheaDX Salesforce Developer Conference, Salesforce Founder and CEO Marc Benioff revealed the news. 

Benioff explained that he became interested in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology during a hotel bar encounter in Davos, Switzerland, while there for the World Economic Forum. Crypto was a primary topic at the event filled with world leaders, and a conversation on the topic with another attendee sparked the realization that blockchain could be a boon for Salesforce. Benioff said, in an interview:

“I had been thinking a lot about what is Salesforce’s strategy around Blockchain, and what is Salesforce’s strategies around cryptocurrencies and how will we relate to all of these things.”

Benioff added: “A lot [of these ideas] come from paying attention, listening. There [are] new ideas coming all the time.”

Benioff hopes to have a “blockchain and cryptocurrency solution for Salesforce and for all of our customers,” ready by the company’s annual Dreamforce conference, which runs from September    25 - 28 this year.

Salesforce is a massive B2B company, offering a range of cloud computing software products, including their widely used CRM software, which companies use to track sales efforts, increase marketing leads, view customer satisfaction insights, and more. Salesforce generated over $10.5 billion in revenue in their last fiscal year.
